What can I expect if I arrive to my concert early?

Doors open two hours before each concert. This allows you to shop at our on-site Symphony Shop Presented by Capital One, dine at our buffet-style restaurant, Opus, and attend a pre-concert lecture (Classical concerts only) one hour before the concert on our lower level in Horchow Hall.

Are the concert rules super strict?

At the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, concert etiquette is relaxed and designed to keep the focus on the music. Plan to arrive a bit early, and dress in whatever feels comfortable—most guests opt for smart casual, but there’s no formal requirement. There is also no clear bag policy, but please be mindful of others who may enter your aisle by bringing a small bag.

During the performance, silence your phone, avoid talking or noise and remain seated until intermission. If your concert includes an intermission, it’s typically about 20 minutes and a great time to step out or chat. When it comes to applause, the simplest rule is to wait until the conductor lowers their arms and turns to the audience, signaling the end of the full piece. Overall, just be mindful of those around you and enjoy the experience.

What is there to do in the area before and after the concert?

The Meyerson Symphony Center is surrounded by beautiful scenery to enjoy at the Bill & Shirley McIntyre Park, vibrant food options at Flora Cantina, La Stella, Musume, Astra Kitchen and Klyde Warren Park, and other cultural finds in the Dallas Arts District at the Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center, The Crow Museum of Asian Art, and others!

What can I expect with the downtown traffic and parking?

With many other event venues in the area, traffic can become congested at any given time in downtown Dallas. We encourage you to allow for additional travel time to lower the risk of arriving late. There are many options for public transit, rideshare, and parking in the area. More details can be found on our Directions & Parking page.

Can I bring my children to a concert? What if they get restless?

Children are always welcome at the DSO, especially for family programming such as our Movies in Concert, Holidays at the DSO, MyDSO Sensory-Friendly Concert, and our contemporary concerts. Children above the age of 4 are also welcome to attend Classical concerts. Just keep in mind that an ability to sit still and quiet for longer stretches of time is required for Classical concerts. If for any reason you have to leave the hall during a concert, it’s best to wait for natural pauses between movements and at the end of pieces. Ushers can assist you with a quick and seamless exit.

Where can I get more specific questions answered?

Our Guest Services team would be happy to assist you by phone at 214-849-4376, email or in-person Monday through Friday between 10am and 6pm at the Guest Services Center at the Meyerson Symphony Center.
