RIMSKY-KORSAKOV Scheherazade
Journey to the fairy-tale world of The Arabian Nights in Rimsky-Korsakov’s cinematic Scheherazade. Spinning stories of young love and thrilling adventures at sea with glittering orchestral colors, Scheherazade conjures the fabled Persian queen who saves the lives of 1,000 women with her imaginative tales.
In Místico y Profano (Mystical and Profane), Arturo Márquez marries the musical traditions of Mexico and Spain in a cross-cultural celebration for guitar and orchestra. Pablo Sainz-Villegas, “the global ambassador of the Spanish guitar” (Billboard), joins the DSO for a musical tapestry of passionate dances, fiery rhythms and intimate prayer.
Opening this program conducted by Music Director Fabio Luisi, Ginastera’s Four Dances from Estancia brings to life the lush grasslands of the Argentine pampa, where cowboys and cattle ranchers face off in a dramatic dance competition.
