Spencer Lang

Tenor

Spencer Lang, a native of Sandy, Oregon, holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Pacific Lutheran University, a master’s degree in music from The Juilliard School, and a professional certificate from the Curtis Institute of Music. Since 2014 he has been a member of the International Opera Studio at Opernhaus Zurich, and he will join their ensemble in the 2016–17 season. In Zurich he has performed varied repertoire, including the World Premiere of Christian Jost’s Rote Laterne in the role of Fay-Pu. He was also seen as Daniel in Frank Schwemmer’s Robin Hood, Der Hirt in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, and Monsieur Vogelsang in Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor. In the coming season he will reprise the role of Monsieur Vogelsang, and perform as Graf Gustav von Pottenstein in a new production of Lehár’s Das Land des Lächelns. Mr. Lang also has an active recital and concert career. He has participated in the Marlboro Chamber Music Festival since 2012, and was a finalist at the International Wigmore Hall Song Competition in 2015. He recently performed the role of Jonathan in the Handel oratorio Alexander Balus to critical acclaim with the London Handel Festival, conducted by Laurence Cummings.
