Violin

American violinist Melissa White’s rapid rise as a soloist has captured the attention of critics worldwide, many who already know her as a founding member of the Grammy-winning Harlem Quartet. As a soloist, Ms. White has performed with such ensembles as the Cleveland, Louisville, and Philadelphia Orchestras, the Boston Pops, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Aspen and Brevard Festival Orchestras, and the Atlanta, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Colorado, Detroit, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras.

2024-25 highlights include appearances with the Delaware, Hilton Head, and Springfield Symphony Orchestras, Orchestra Iowa, and the Cape Town Philharmonic, as well as recitals at Boston Conservatory, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, Chamber Music Detroit, and Ontario’s Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts. Since 2023 she has given solo debuts at Carnegie Hall, the Phillips Collection, and Purdue Convocations, among other prestigious venues. A first-prize laureate in the Sphinx Competition, Ms. White also performs with the Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective and was featured recently at Festival Napa Valley and the Sarasota Music Festival. Internationally, she was featured with Poland’s Filharmonia Dolnoslaska, the Czech National Philharmonic, the Colombian Youth Orchestra on tour, and in recital in Azerbaijian and Poland. Her film credits include a violin solo in the soundtrack to Jordan Peele’s 2019 psychological thriller Us, and she has also performed alongside several pop artists including Pharrell, Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys, and Lauryn Hill.

A passionate educator, Ms. White serves as Professor of Music at the University at Buffalo and Music Artist Faculty at New York University. She performs on a c1780 Ferdinando Gagliano violin on loan from Strumenti.
