Edna Vázquez
Edna Vazquez is a fearless singer, songwriter, composer, and guitarist whose powerful voice and musical talent transcend the boundaries of language to engage and uplift her audience. Vazquez’s musical soul was forged by her family and her upbringing in Jalisco, Mexico, birthplace of mariachi, where she was bathed daily in the rich and colorful sounds of traditional Mexican folk music. As a teenager, she undertook a life-changing relocation to Portland, Oregon, where she developed a musical style that paid homage to what she loved from both of her homelands, creating a bicultural melting pot of folk, rock, R&B and Mexican heritage, deeply rooted in universal human emotion.
Forming a passionate following in her adopted hometown with her own band, Edna came to the attention of the famous “little orchestra” Pink Martini, and in 2017 began regularly touring as “special guest singer” with the band, connecting with fans all over the world, and performing over the past eight years in many famous venues, from the Hollywood Bowl to Carnegie Hall to Royal Albert Hall in London and the Grand Rex and Bercy in Paris and many more. As a soloist, Vazquez has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, under Gustavo Dudamel, the San Francisco Symphony, the Oregon Symphony, and at the Hollywood Bowl with the acclaimed pianist Lang Lang.
Vazquez released an EP in 2019 with Pink Martini as her backing band (Besame mucho) and has self-released several other albums and EPs of original music. In 2025, Vazquez will release new album “Te Esperaba,” a collection of mostly original compositions based in traditional northern Mexican styles like Banda and Norteño, and also in traditional Mariachi. Edna is proud to continue to venture into these traditionally male-dominated genres with her powerful interpretive voice.
