Remembering Dr. James E. Skibo (1947– 2023)

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra mourns the loss of longtime friend and supporter of the DSO, Dr. James Skibo.

Dr. Skibo, commonly known as Jim, was the Army & Air Force Exchange Service’s senior vice president of Customer Relationship Management. He began his Exchange career in June 1969 as a college trainee, and was one of the organization’s longest-tenured executives. He conducted extensive research within the field of organizational evolution and change and was an industry expert on promotion management. In a professional capacity, Jim spoke at national and international industry forums and presented his research at numerous conferences. He authored numerous academic papers, books and book chapters and served as an adjunct professor at Texas Woman’s University.

He first subscribed to the DSO in 1986, later becoming a donor and Hans Kreissig Legacy Society member. The Dr. James E. Skibo Viola Chair, currently held by Valerie Dimond, was named for Jim in 2021.

Jim is survived by his loving family including older brother Andy and sister-in-law Leslie Skibo, along with their children and spouses Zachary (Hayley), Nicholas (Catie), Jedd (Jen) and Bryn, and all their grandchildren. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

The Dallas Symphony is dedicating the February 18 concert A John Williams Celebration in Jim’s memory.

Jim’s full remembrance from the Exchange can be found here.
