TEXAS INSTRUMENTS CLASSICAL SERIES

This season marks Fabio Luisi’s seventh as the DSO’s Music Director. Luisi and the DSO explore the dynamic range of the classical repertoire, and invite audiences to listen boldly, one of the central themes of DSO’s 2026/27 season.

“As music director, one of my highest priorities is the connection between the orchestra and our audience. My goal is to make listeners both happy and curious. I hope they are deeply moved by the great works of the classical canon that we will perform, while also remaining open to new music from all styles and eras,” said Luisi. “Of course, there’s also a big responsibility toward my orchestra — to lead them forward and encourage growth based on my musical priorities. Since my first season in Dallas, they have been developing an awareness of the beauty of sound, the shaping of phrases and the joy of an inspired, spontaneous, and therefore truly authentic performance.”

“The beauty of live symphonic music lies in being together, the orchestra with the audience,” Luisi continued. “This shared experience will be at the heart of our 2026/27 season, which promises to be fantastic and thrilling.”

Luisi will lead the orchestra in 10 classical programs throughout the concert season, in repertoire that leans into the style of classical composers like J.S. Bach and Mozart, while also continuing the orchestra’s exploration of the lush, expansive romantic works of composers such as Mahler and Strauss. Luisi’s first program in the Texas Instruments Classical Series features DSO Principal Horn Daniel Hawkins (Howard E. Rachofsky Chair) in his solo debut with the orchestra on October 16-18, 2026. Hawkins, a Texas native, was appointed to the DSO in September 2023. He will take center stage in performances of Richard Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 2, followed by the orchestra in Beethoven’s vibrant Seventh Symphony.

In February 2027, Dallas audiences are in for a special treat, with the DSO premiere of J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion. This will mark both the orchestra’s first time performing Bach’s biblical masterpiece as well as Music Director Fabio Luisi’s first time to conduct a Bach passion, which he considers to be some of the composer’s greatest works. The performance will feature guest vocalists (to be announced at a later date) as well as the Dallas Symphony Chorus led by chorus director, Anthony Blake Clark (Jean D. Wilson Chair).

In March 2027, the orchestra will present the world premiere of Michael Abels’ new Cello Concerto* featuring Tommy Mesa in his DSO debut. Abels is best known for his work in film music, notably for the scores to Jordan Peele’s films including Us, Nope and the Oscar®-winning film Get Out. Conductor Samuel Lee takes the Meyerson podium for the first time in this program, which also includes Bernstein’s Three Dance Episodes from On the Town and Dvořák’s tranquil Symphony No. 8.

The DSO and Luisi will present an opera-in-concert production of Mozart’s beloved dark comedy, Don Giovanni, onMarch 26 & 28, 2027. Italian baritone Ildebrando D’Arcangelo will portray the legendary libertine in the title role, alongside a powerhouse cast of singers and the Dallas Symphony Chorus directed by Anthony Blake Clark. See the attached calendar for the full cast listing.
