A pioneer of jazz funk, key figure of the acid jazz movement and dubbed the “Godfather of Neo Soul,” the legendary Roy Ayers continues to bridge the gap between generations of music lovers. In the 60’s he was an award-winning jazz vibraphonist, and transformed into a popular R&B band leader in the 70’s/80’s. Today, the dynamic music man is an iconic figure still in great demand with music industry heavyweights, including Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, 50 Cent, A Tribe Called Quest, and Ice Cube.

Cherry Rhodes is the first American to win an international organ competition (Munich). She has toured extensively through major music capitals of America, Europe and Asia with recitals in world-renowned cathedrals, churches concert and concert halls including Notre Dame, Royal Festival Hall (London), International Performing Arts Center (Moscow), Walt Disney Concert Hall, Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center. She returns to the Meyerson Symphony Center after having last performed here in 1993.

Cellist Jan Vogler plays the central role of Cervantes’s beloved Don, with other instruments representing various characters throughout including the brass taking a turn as a herd of sheep. The famous viola solo in Don Quixote features DSO’s very own, Meredith Kufchak, Principal Viola.
