Ring Cycle: Das Rheingold
Wednesday, May 1
Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center
Tonight, the âPrologueâ of Wagnerâs masterpiece The Ring of the Nibelung sets the mighty saga in motion and prepares you for what is to come: the conflict between love and power, and, ultimately, redemption through love. Youâll be plunged into the depths of the Rhine and hear the seductive siren song of the Rhine maidens; shudder at the curse placed on the possessor of all-power-giving ring of gold; fear for the folly of the gods as they traverse the rainbow bridge to enter their Valhalla palace â not knowing the doom that awaits them. With English supertitles.
Tickets starting at $52
7:30pmRing Cycle: Die WalkĂźre
Thursday, May 2
Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center
With Die WalkĂźre, Wagner leaves the realm of the gods and traces the story of the king of the gods Wotanâs mortal children and the warrior-maid BrĂźnnhilde. The most well-loved opera of the tetralogy, it encompasses some of its most beautiful music: impassioned expressions of love, Wotanâs farewell to his beloved child BrĂźnnhilde, the Magic Fire Music, and, of course, The Ride of the Valkyries, the rousing battle cry sung by eight Valkyrie sisters (memorably on the soundtrack of Apocalypse Now). With English supertitles.
Tickets starting at $52

Thursday, May 23

Riveting. Virtuosic. Diabolical. Daredevil. Terrifying. Words that describe both Prokofievâs Second Piano Concerto and Waltonâs first symphony. The critic Harold Schonberg laid out the requirements for playing Prokofievâs landmark work: âSteel fingers, steel biceps, steel triceps â a tonal steel trust.â (ââŚfeats of prestidigitation from Denis Kozhukhin⌠ferocious energy⌠the octave leaps cast off as dizzyingly as any high-wire actâ [BachTrack]). Meanwhile, Waltonâs work premiered to critical acclaim for its commanding artistry and unflinching use of the power of the orchestra. Hang on to your seats for this one!
