Meet our 2026 Music Teacher of the Year
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the winner of this year’s Music Teacher of the Year Award. Pamela Jenkins is the music teacher at Martin Weiss Elementary and formally received the award at the DSO concert on Saturday, March 7 at the Meyerson Symphony Center. The DSO’s annual award recognizes an outstanding music educator and comes with a cash prize of $500. Known for her passion and dedication, Jenkins has championed the belief that music education is essential, not optional, throughout her 35 years of dedicated service in Dallas ISD.
“I have witnessed the measurable and lasting impact of music education on student achievement, development, and school culture,” said Jenkins. “Music education is not an enrichment add-on; it is a critical component of a comprehensive and equitable public education.”
“I have seen children who struggle academically discover confidence through rhythm, movement, and performance,” she added. “Music gives students a unique place to succeed-sometimes for the very first time!”
Jenkins has served as music teacher at Martin Weiss Elementary School of Leadership for eight years. Prior to her service there, she worked as the music teacher at Joseph J. Rhoads Learning Center for 27 years. As an elementary music educator, she has transformed her music classrooms into vibrant learning spaces where every child finds their voice, builds confidence and discovers the joy of music. Jenkins guides students in instrumental and choral performance while teaching essential life skills such as discipline, collaboration, creativity and resilience. Her music students consistently demonstrate improved academic engagement, social-emotional growth and a lifelong appreciation for the arts. She has led countless concerts and community programs that celebrate diversity, foster inclusion and strengthen school-community connections.
