GALA CHAIRS
Vanessa Cain and David Cain
“Music has the power to inspire, connect and transform lives unlike anything else, and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra is at the heart of that in our community. It is our great honor to serve as Gala Chairs for this year’s Symphony Gala.” said Vanessa and David Cain. “We have been longtime supporters of the DSO, and we’re thrilled to expand our involvement by leading the charge for one of their most impactful fundraising events. The DSO’s work in the community and through education outreach keeps the arts thriving in our city, and we couldn’t be more excited to be part of it.”
PROGRAM
FABIO LUISI conducts LEONIDAS KAVAKOS violin
BEETHOVEN Overture to Egmont TCHAIKOVSKY Concerto in D Major for Violin and Orchestra
Characterized by ravishingly beautiful passages, graceful melodies and deeply felt passion, Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece has spoken to the heart of generations of adoring audiences. Leonidas Kavakos, our Artist-in-Residence, steps into the spotlight at our celebratory Gala. Whether this is the first or 50th time you’ve heard Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, Kavakos says, “each and every time the listener goes away taking something new and something fresh and something beautiful with them. That is what a great piece of art is all about.” Opening this festive occasion is the Egmont Overture, named for the title character of Goethe’s play. The stirring music reflects the nobility of the man who dies a hero to his people.
