Dallas Symphony Orchestra Announces Community Performances This Fall

The Concert Truck returns to Dallas, and DSO introduces new programming at Klyde Warren Park and McIntyre Park

DALLAS (October 9, 2023) – This fall, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra will bring classical music to the community with the return of The Concert Truck and a new series of chamber music and educational events in the Dallas Arts District and beyond. Each performance will feature DSO musicians or education staff members and will be free and open to the public.

“It’s always such a joy to share beautiful music with our community outside of the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center,” said Kim Noltemy, Ross Perot President & CEO of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. “We’re looking forward to collaborating once again with The Concert Truck and Klyde Warren Park, and we are particularly excited to welcome guests to our inaugural performances at Shirley & Bill McIntyre Park.”

The Concert Truck, in partnership with the DSO, will once again roll into iconic locations across the city, including return visits to NorthPark Center, the Sixth Floor Museum and One Arts Plaza. New this year, The Concert Truck will present a special hip-hop-infused performance at Ash Studios featuring members of the DSO, Niina DJ, and emcees 88 Killa and A Dot, as well as an interactive visual element. “We are thrilled to be returning to Dallas, our second home, for our sixth residency with the Dallas Symphony!” said Concert Truck founders Susan Zhang and Nick Luby. “It’s always a pleasure to collaborate with our friends in the orchestra and to share music with the DFW community.”

The Concert Truck, founded in 2016, is a traveling concert stage that brings classical music directly to communities all over the United States. Since their first visit to Dallas during the 2020 holiday season, the Concert Truck and DSO musicians have provided a way for DFW residents to experience and enjoy over 200 performances around the Metroplex.

Symphony Sundays at Klyde Warren Park

The DSO is pleased to introduce a new collaboration with Klyde Warren Park, “Symphony Sundays.” On three special Sundays this fall and winter, the DSO will perform chamber music for parkgoers to enjoy. The first Symphony Sunday concert will feature a string quartet of DSO musicians on October 15 from 6 – 7 p.m. The DSO will present two additional Symphony Sunday concerts, on November 19 and December 17. Concerts at the Shirley & Bill McIntyre Park

Dallasites will also enjoy classical music and educational experiences at McIntyre Park this autumn. The DSO will present chamber music concerts in the park, as well as hands-on educational activities including instrument petting zoos and other demonstrations. Look for the DSO at McIntyre Park on the third Tuesday and Saturday of each month, starting on October 17 from 5 – 6 p.m. with a string quartet performanceand October 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with educational activities.

McIntyre Park is situated on the west side of the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. The park, which is owned by the City of Dallas, was renamed in April 2023 as part of an initiative to improve, beautify and increase musical programming through a $3 million gift to the DSO from Dallas philanthropic community leaders Shirley and Bill McIntyre.

The Concert Truck, founded in 2016 by concert pianists Susan Zhang and Nick Luby, is a traveling concert stage housed in an 18-ft box truck that brings classical music directly to communities in outdoor spaces all over the United States. In the recent seasons, The Concert Truck has partnered with the Aspen Music Festival and School, Seattle Chamber Music Society, Strings Music Festival in Steamboat Springs, Piano Cleveland, the Smithsonian, and the Kennedy Center to share music with their local communities. Additionally, The Concert Truck created an online children’s show in partnership with the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival that has been presented to over 55,000 students in North Carolina schools. The Concert Truck launched in April 2016, giving eight performances in five days throughout the city of Columbia, SC.
