Beethoven Overture to Leonore, No. 1
Acclaimed soloist Leonidas Kavakos steps into the spotlight for Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, a towering creation of powerful impact (some violinists have dubbed it their “Mount Everest”). Scaling this musical mountain lets performers reveal their emotional depth and technical mastery in jaw-dropping fire-works.
The least popular of the three different openers to his failed opera Fidelio, Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 1 uses racing string passages and dramatic orchestral climaxes to encapsulate the story of the prisoner’s wife (Leonore), who dresses up like a prison guard and rescues her husband (Fidelio) from execution.
Also witness a new orchestral work by Angélica Negrón, DSO’s Composer-in-Residence, in its world premiere. Commissioned for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra by the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation.
