Hood se gradu\u00f3 en la Interlochen Arts Academy de Michigan y obtuvo una licenciatura en m\u00fasica y un certificado de int\u00e9rprete en la Eastman School of Music y un m\u00e1ster en el Cleveland Institute of Music. Entre sus principales profesores se encuentran Steven Doane, Stephen Geber y Crispin Campbell. Pas\u00f3 dos a\u00f1os como becario de la New World Symphony y fue miembro de la Canton Symphony Orchestra.
